Monday to Friday Schedule

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Well Monday is Labour Day Weekend here in Canada. Tuesday is the firstday of school though I go for only an hour, possibly 45 minutes. Wednesday is the real first day of school going for the whole day and Thursday and Friday are the last days of the first week of school.

The schedule for next week is: Monday and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday have posts coming and possibly Wednesday as that is the first day of school for the full day through. The best part is that I can probably post from school as there is wifi and I can do this from either my laptop of iPod Touch.

The subjects for posts of this week will most likely be about iPod touch / iPhone applications though there may be different posts during this week.

Talk to you on Monday,
Ryan Orser.

iPod and iPhone Applications Review: Flash Light

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

This is a really cool application when you get around to figuring out how to make this a useful part of your tool box. I really like the functionality of this because this one will always be used for going around in the dark at night to  look at something I might have missed during the day, for example, I wanted to go and get something to eat, problem was that I had to eat as fast as I could without leaving much mess and I could not turn on the light without it waking others up. I would use this to have my little midnight snack by shining this light on the food while I eat it. There is also a strobe light as part of this application to so that if in any doubt shine it and see how it looks. I like the read strobe light and though I have not tried it in the dark I think this would be a great help to people who just need to cheer up at night or to make it look like there is something happening at your house and get your neighbors worried 😛 . There is a lot of functionality from this one application. I really do like this one and I may use it more now that I have discussed it.

Overall I would give this one a 5/5 on looks, a 5/5 on creativity, and a 5/5 on functionality. So that would give this one a 15/15 overall.

iPod and iPhone Applications Review: Digital Clock

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

The digital Clock is really just an application that is built for just displaying the time. Though it does use the accelerometer which is a nice feature for any device to have so that I can put the display on its side and see it is a widescreen format. That is how I use it at night while it is charging so that I can see the time. Since I do not have the iPod dock that will work with this iPod I will likely have to buy another one…… I bought one only 9 months ago for my old iPod nano which I gave to my sister. I do enjoy this digital clock as I have been at my grandparents house and camping out in their motorhome in their driveway, because there aren’t any clocks I just use this application on my iPod and it works great.

Overall this is a neat application for the iPod or the iPhone. I would rate this a 4/5 on looks, 5/5 on the brightness and a 1 /5 on the functionality. for a total of 10 / 15 overall.

Ryan Orsers’ New iPod Touch

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I know i know there is an apple meeting and press conference happening in September, though as my birthday is in August the cash that I get just burns holes in my wallet. So I decided to buy an iPod Touch. I bought one off of apple.com/ca and I bought a refurbished one, which may be a bad choice in the end but really I love this little device as it has internet and applications (as you may know the app store is only for 2.0 iPod Touch firmware and yes I bought it. I seem to have quite a bit of apps on it just to try it out. I have my sudoku an hour glass which I have no clue how that is going to do anything for me, a checklist, last.fm, a flashlight, counter, downtime, dizzybeefree, google mobile, fortune, bubble, 2 bubblewrap popping games, a digital clock, a binary clock, EverNote, Aurora Feint, and others.

I will be reviewing applications all of next week for posts. Keeping reading!

Elive 1.0 Has Arrived

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Today I went and opened my mailbox and there was a package from LinuxCD.org in it. I grabbed all the mail and decided to open it as soon as I got into the door so I could take a look at the cd I bought not so long ago.

I am going to try it out in a Virtual Machine. I have not decided to use either VMWare or VirtualBox yet but it looks like I will have to soon enough as I am going to review it. Hopefully it is not really that bad and I really did not waste the money spent on this cd. Though I have recieved cds from the UK I have never recieved any before from France so this is a new place from where I had decided to buy from and I will buy from there again.

Elive 1.0

Monday, August 18th, 2008

I have just ordered the Elive 1.0 cd from Linuxcd.org. I am going to test it out in a virtual machine, if I like it or even if I do not I will write a review. Shouldn’t be that hard to write a review of something I could have downloaded illegally, though I chose to buy it from a legal source in France. I bought it by the means of paypal and it costs about $4.53 CAD which is quite a bit but that is because the cd only costs 1.95 but the shipping costs more then the cd. If I could have it shipped without priority mail, as this is why it costs so much to ship from France I would have it shipped over a longer period of time.

SLED 10 SP2 Evaluation.

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I am going to try SLED (Suse Linux Entreprise Desktop) evaluation. I have not decided to switch to it though I will be able tp try it for 60 days. Hey it is better then Vista isn’t it? If this is worth switching to I will buy the license but so far it is only downloading. A review may come later and with the review will come screenshots. Since I am not switching yet I will just use VirtualBox from http://virtualbox.org/ and will give it a try.
