Who Wants a Snow Globe?

I wrote yesterday about how to get snow falling on your desktop! Best part is I have been running it for over 3 days straight and have had no problems. Today we have something to go along with this wintery theme: A snow globe! Here are the instructions:

WARNING!!!! I have to say if you do not know much about the command line you could get yourself into trouble. I am fairly good at the command line as I start to use it more and more. WARNING!!!

1. Open Terminal.

2. go to the folder compiz: cd ~/compiz/

3. You need a few packages: to install if you do not already have them: sudo apt-get install compiz-fusion-bcop compiz-dev compizconfig-settings-manager build-essential libtool libglu1-mesa-dev libxss-dev libcairo2-dev git-core

4. Now lets create the snowglobe from source.

5. go into ~/compiz/ and copy this command: git clone git://anongit.compiz-fusion.org/fusion/plugins/snowglobe

6. It should now download.

7. When it is done go to the snowglobe folder: cd snowglobe

8. Now we only have three steps left:
1)Type in this command: make clean.
2)2nd to last command: make
3)Finish with this command: make install

You should be done. If you want to enable it go to System->Preferences->Compiz Config Settings Manager and enable Snow Globe.

I have not been able to figure out why it does not work so well for me. If you have any ideas just leave a comment and I will try them out and if they work they will be posted.

Ryan Orser.
