1. Ubuntu Server: time to get on board (Mathias Gug)
The Ubuntu Server Team is dedicated to building a stable, feature rich
server platform based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution.
We are interested in improving Ubuntu in the server space, and we’re
looking for help from other interested community members.
= What are you guys doing now? =
Here is an excerpt of the specific tasks and projects we are currently
working on:
* Integrate the AppArmor security framework into Ubuntu.
* Provide an easy to use administration interface for a file and
print server.
* Provide an easy way to install and configure client LDAP
authentication.
You can find the complete list of features we are implementing on our
Roadmap: https://wiki.ubuntu.com
= How can I get involved ? =
There are various areas where you can contribute:
* Triage bugs
The Ubuntu Server team is looking after server related packages. You can
view the list of bugs related to ubuntu-server and help triaging them or
submit patches for outstanding bugs :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/
Our current focus is to triage all bugs related to mysql.
* Maintain packages
You can browse the list of packages looked after by the Ubuntu Server
Team to see if some need packaging work.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/
This is a excellent way to gain experience to become a MOTU!
* Testing
If you have server-type hardware, you can make sure that Ubuntu is
supported and works well on it. You can also test software and features
worked on by the Ubuntu Server Team:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com
We currently have a testing plan for the AppArmor profiles.
There are other ways to get involved in the Ubuntu Server Team :
