Hello Everyone! Today is the day I review Finnix 92.1. As with all the reviews I have written since June 1st 2008 I put standard specs for testing out distros in virtual machines for everyone that I use:
- 512mb of RAM
- 8 GB hard drive
- 8 MB of video memory
This time how ever I will not be installing it as I have never been able to figure out how to get the distro with the commands that I have found to format the drive and be able to install.
I guess with the stats that I have listed about the 8 MB of video memory are not really needed and I may take them off later.
So here is what I could gather:
- Since it is all CLI and I usually use a bit of both I found it a bit more difficult to use then I would normally would have. I had this ISO for a couple of weeks since I was going to try it anyways.
- Commands: the commands that I have tried to install it with are fdisk which was working just fine except when I put in the command to rewrite the partitions after deleting them it did not seem to work. I also tried to use the install and the install-mbr command. Neither seemed to work for me.
- With all the work load I have from my Post Secondary studies I really have no time to work on this at the moment… but I have spring break later in March so maybe I will have time then.
Since you have heard what I couldn’t do this is what I can do:
- Booted the cd.
- Tried commands that were to my best efforts were completely useless to me.
That is all I can say. I know it is not much of a review but it is better then nothing.
I would have to rate this at 1.5/5 (On a day which I would be feeling a little more generous then usual.)
I plan to stick with Ubuntu for the time being as I have everything I need.
Ryan Orser.
