As I have pointed out in an earlier post titled: Ubuntu 9.10 works with ATI Radeon HD3650. I have tested the new Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1 with the drivers for the ATI Radeon HD3650 and it doesn’t work but that is not a surprise as it is an Alpha. There should be more coming out about this as later releases come out.
Thanks for reading,

the problem is, 10.04 uses xorg 7.5, still unsupported by the standard ati drivers (they go up to xorg 7.4) ati is having some ubuntu users testing it at the moment, i applied but no answer so i cannot tell you how far the drivers are.
this happened before with 9.10 i believe, and at release ubuntu shipped with a beta driver (don’t worry it was tested for a while there..) i assume it will be the same for 10.04.
so, whilst ati is a tad slow, i definitely see that they are working on it.. if only they read up on upcoming xorg releases before a major distro releases with them they wouldn’t have to do it like this.
as of today, there is no driver availible in the “hardware drivers” program, and the driver from the ati site does not work yet (still the xorg 7.4 version)
ati users, do not install the alpha yet ^^

… or, If you’re using Ubuntu, then stay away from ATI. 🙁 I’ve never been able to get ATI video cards to really work with Linux (Ubuntu or otherwise). The “native” radeon driver actually works pretty well (including 3D stuff like the desktop cube and transparency), but as soon as you try to start a game, it immediately freaks out. Then again, even under 9.10, the proprietary drivers didn’t work for games.
(I may end up doing a clean install again from scratch, just to make sure I haven’t goofed up anything myself with all my fiddling around.)
ATI have already released a new driver supporting XORG 7.5
now, check http://www.ati.com for new driver releases!
This last version supports the new Ubuntu distros!
When I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now every time a remark is added I get four emails with the identical comment. Is there any approach you possibly can remove me from that service? Thanks!
not sure.
sorry,
