On Tuesday, the USPTO granted Microsoft a patent for <a href=\"http:\/\/patft.uspto.gov\/netacgi\/nph-Parser?patentnumber=7,269,853\">privacy policy change notification<\/a>, which describes how to <a href=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1064\/1358325795_2545188f44_o.jpg\">threaten users with the loss of their accounts<\/a> and access to web sites and services should they refuse to consent to changes in a privacy policy. This includes the case where a user might object to allowing personal information, collected earlier with a promise of confidentiality, to be shared in the future with third parties.
