Is it true? Will Microsoft start to comply with standards? The new version of the dominant browser will <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/ie\/archive\/2008\/03\/03\/microsoft-s-interoperability-principles-and-ie8.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage\">render in full standards mode by default<\/a>. Developers wishing to use quirks mode for IE6- and IE7-compatible rendering will have to opt in explicitly. We&#8217;ve previously discussed IE8&#8217;s render mode a <a href=\"http:\/\/it.slashdot.org\/it\/08\/01\/22\/1837244.shtml?tid=113\">few<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/developers.slashdot.org\/developers\/08\/01\/23\/1740228.shtml?tid=113\">times.<\/a> Perhaps <a href=\"http:\/\/yro.slashdot.org\/yro\/07\/12\/13\/1524233.shtml?tid=123\">Opera&#8217;s complaint to the EU<\/a> or the <a href=\"http:\/\/slashdot.org\/mainpage\/08\/02\/27\/1152208.shtml?tid=98\">EU&#8217;s record antitrust fine<\/a> had something to do with Redmond&#8217;s about-face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"article\" id=\"art23\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"body\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro\">I hope Microsoft was freaked out by Opera&#8217;s complaint to the EU or that the EU&#8217;s record anti-trust fine, though it could be both  or none.
