I have a review about Ubuntu 8.10 Final! Most reviews come after a few days, but this one will come over two weeks after the release. So lets get started.

I love Ubuntu, but do not let that make you think that I would choose Ubuntu over many other distros, though I have not found one that I liked that I would stick with.

Ubuntu released this beauty on October 30th 2008 and I have seen myself up grade to the final release on my media center, and my laptop which I go and use to write these posts. I have also heard that my friend Tom Dryer from http://Tombuntu.com has done a clean install of Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex. I love to see the changes in the speed, which for the most part are a lot faster then hardy. I can have my laptop boot in under 45 seconds which is not shabby though I do have 2 GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo inside also.

The themes are nice, but as Tom found one and wrote about it I downloaded it and installed it as soon as I saw it. Click Here to go to the post. I have chosen this one to stick with for the rest of the time I use Ubuntu 8.10 because there is no doubt in my mind that I think it looks great and adds a nice contrast to the other Ubuntu Colors. Hey I love Blue and it has some black in it so they go nice together.

The applications work lovely. The bug I wrote about for Firefox, which I do not know what happened with it, has just about gone away, I had the problem today but it was the first time in nearly a month since that has happened. Transmission has worked well when I download Linux Distributions. I still prefer Deluge-Torrent though. Pidgin works great as I use that sometimes when I do not want to use my web browser (Firefox 3.0.3) or my iPod Touch. I also installed Skype from the website and this is a great thing to have… if anyone was ever on. 🙁 But incase anyone is ever on I will be able to use it with my headset microphone. Rhythym Box works great, I have not seen any new features since the last Ubuntu Release though. Maybe I am not looking hard enough. I also installed VLC Media Player from the repositories. As I have talked about before I use Brasero to burn CDs’ and DVDs’. This is a great set of programs that come with this great operating system.

As I have said the speed, applications, and most of the bugs have been fixed which is great. I highly recommend this Distribution to anyone who wants to use a Linux Distribution that is easy to use and easy to customize to your own needs.

Ryan Orser.

Hey Everyone!
