This is a step by step guide for upgrading to the new Alpha 1 of Ubuntu 10.04. Read the disclaimer before following this guide.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

I am using virtualbox for this. You need the following:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Ubnuntu 9.10 installed<\/li>\n
  2. An internet connection<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    DO NOT INSTALL ON A PRODUCTION MACHINE! THIS IS NOT A STABLE RELEASE!<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Here are the steps:<\/p>\n

    1. Open the Run application by using ALT+F2.<\/li>\n
    2. Type in: update-manager -d<\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. Click Run<\/li>\n
    4. The update manager opens up.<\/li>\n
    5. Click new release Ubuntu 10.04 upgrade.<\/li>\n
    6. type in your administrator password<\/li>\n
    7. Click upgrade on the next window.<\/li>\n
    8. Update Manager will download two packages for the upgrade<\/li>\n
    9. There may be an dialog box saying that support has ended for the following applications and that they maybe removed after the installation. Click close.<\/li>\n
    10. The Upgrade will start setting up the new software channels<\/li>\n
    11. After reading the next dialog box you can choose to upgrade or to cancel.<\/li>\n
    12. If you are going to upgrade click upgrade<\/li>\n
    13. Now it will get the new packages and install them<\/li>\n
    14. Next you can either replace files or not replace them.<\/li>\n
    15. Then after the kernel installs the install will start to clean up.<\/li>\n
    16. While cleaning up the Upgrade will ask if you want to remove some packages.<\/li>\n
    17. After you can restart the computer<\/li>\n
