How To Install OOo 3 in Ubuntu 8.10!

I have been saying for a while when I started to try and use OpenOffice.org 3 that I could not open the application with out it crashing…. It works now! This is what you need to do to get your Open Office 3.0 working on your Ubuntu system.

  1. Go to System>Administration>Software Sources
  2. When it loads up you have to put in your sudo password. So just type in the password and hit enter.
  3. Go to Third Parties tab on the window that pops up after the password dialog.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Now copy and paste this line of text into that dialog box that pops up after you click add: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main
  6. Now click OK.
  7. Click Close. The computer will now reload your sources for you.
  8. You should get updates… For myself it was 63… just install them.
  9. After they are installed go to Applications>Office>OpenOffice.org Word Processor.

You are done!! Have fun with Open Office 3.0
